Cotococha Amazon Lodge by public bus (approx. 5 hours)

Several public transportation companies operate the stretch Quito – Tena departing from Quito's main terminal. The journey takes approximately 5 hours, travelling over partially paved and unpaved roads. Cotococha Amazon Lodge can arrange a pick up at the Tena bus terminal by one of Cotococha´s staff members to take you to the Lodge with another public bus. This will take another 45 minutes. Cotococha Amazon Lodge can also provide you with a private transfer from Tena to our lodge at an additional cost.

With private transport Cotococha Amazon Lodge suggests you leave early, as the journey is highly interesting for its nature and possible stops. Just to give some examples:

Nature:

Experience the differences in landscapes and vegetation driving from Quito (at 2850mts) through the central valley east of Quito (at 2400mts) and crossing a mountain pass on the Eastern Cordillera (at 4065 mts) to reach Tena (at 600 mts). You will cross Andean farmlands, highlands with its magnificent vegetation and views of the Antisana (5758 m.), wealthy cloud forest vegetation with hundreds of bromeliads and orchids as well as lush tropical humid forests in just 5 hours driving time.

Termas de Papallacta (Hot Springs of Papallacta):

Ecuador's most beautifully situated thermal hot springs Resort and Spa. Ideal for taking a swim or getting a great massage.

Trout lunch:

Cotococha Amazon Lodge suggests you to stop for lunch at the small town of Baeza where you can taste one of the best trout of Ecuador at the restaurant Gina.

Jumandy caves:

If you're in time then you could take a spectacular hike through the caves, named after a local indigenous chief. There is a small river in the cave, so bring your swimming gear.
